Computer Navigation Technology in partial knee replacement or in total knee replacement is the most advanced technique guiding joint replacement surgeon more accurately through the implantation of a knee replacement. Dr L Tomar is one the pioneer knee replacement surgeon in Delhi done hundreds of cases of Minimally Invasive Knee Replacement Surgery in Delhi using Computer Navigation Technology so far.

Using infrared sensing feature of Computer Navigation System, a knee replacement surgeon can precisely analyze the patient knee anatomy & with that help position the knee implant at exact location without any error; therefore eliminating any chance of post surgical complication. Dr L Tomar has gained immense expertise & precision in this technology carrying out hundreds of successful minimal invasive total knee replacement surgeries in Delhi; therefore, improving the short term and long term functioning & performance of the knee replacement

In computer navigation technique for knee replacement surgery, a joint replacement surgeon uses the infrared sensor to digitally mark and map the anatomy of the knee and adjacent structures which are the femur and tibia. Using most advanced software of navigation system, surgeon is able to analyze the exact position of the knee and precisely evaluate current deformities and bone loss. This information is very important for any joint replacement surgeon for any change need to made in bone, ligament balancing and exact placement of implant with the help of computer navigation system. A minimally invasive joint replacement surgeon can see in computer, during the operation, the preoperative 3D image of the anatomy of the knee and the planned anatomy of the knee, helping surgeon to interpret this data in order to accurately establishing the desired or normal patient anatomy. This offers patient post operatively to regain the maximum function and motion of knee replacement.

Dr L Tomar uses best knee implants with latest designs having greater and more normal range of motion. With minimally invasive surgical techniques, Dr L Tomar always aim to offer following benefits:

  • More accurate & precise alignment of the implanted knee replacement
  • Faster rehabilitation process
  • Shorter hospital stays
  • Less time on a walker & faster one can return to normal function
  • Less postoperative pain
  • Less bleeding and need of blood transfusion
  • Less disruption of tissue
  • A longevity of implant greatly enhanced
  • Minimal Scar
About Knee Replacement Surgery

What is Knee Replacement Surgery?

In the knee replacement surgery or Knee Arthroplasty, damaged knee joint is replaced with artificial implants. In knee joint lower end of femur (thighbone) meets the upper side of the tibia (lower leg bone) with kneecap (patella). In knee replacement surgery, the ending part of the bones of knee joint is cut precisely so that implants can be fitted accurately; the damaged cartilages and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) are removed. New specifically shaped artificial implants made of metal, plastic and polymer is fitted and fixed using polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) cement or cement less techniques may be used.

Knee replacement surgery can be either total knee replacement in which surfaces of all bones of joint are replaced or partial knee replacement in which the damaged part of the knee joint is replaced. The implants work similar to natural knee joints and they may also wear out with the time specially when the implantation is carried out in young patients.

Rehabilitation Program

It is imperative to follow rehabilitation program after the knee replacement surgery. This includes recommended physiotherapy and physical activities. These exercises strengthen the knee joint and facilitate the proper movement like bending, straightening and walking. .

Why Knee Replacement is done

In some diseases knee joints may get damaged causing severe pain and posing very difficulty in movement. In conditions where medicines and other non surgical procedures are not at all helpful then Knee Replacement is the only option. Some of the common problems associated with knee are-

  • Osteoarthritis – This type of arthritis is generally found in people of 50 years or older, in some cases it may be found in young people. Cartilage present between bones in a joint acts as a cushion and provides soft and smoother movement of bones. With time bones cartilage face wear and tear, so bones strike with each other causing pain in joints.
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis – In this type of arthritis synovial membrane of the joints gets inflamed and thickened, which damage the bone cartilage causing pain and stiffness.
  • Post traumatic arthritis – This type of arthritis is observed in serious knee injury, which can cause fracture and can damage the bone cartilage or ligaments. This arthritis causes pain in knee joint and problem in movements.

With more than 2000 successful Knee Surgeries, Dr L Tomar is one the best surgeon for partial and total knee replacement surgery in Delhi, using minimal invasive computer navigation technology. With his expertise and understanding of knee Arthroplasty he has performed thousands of successful knee replacement surgery. He is an active member of various prestigious Orthopaedic associations Nationally & Internationally and call upon at various forums for presentation, training & live surgeries.
